India's fuel demand rose 3.2 percent in December compared with the same month last year.

Consumption of fuel, a proxy for oil demand, totalled 18.51 million tonnes, data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) of the oil ministry showed.

Sales of gasoline, or petrol, were about 10 percent higher from a year earlier at 2.40 million tonnes. Meanwhile, diesel sales rose 3.5 percent to 7.37 million tonnes.

Cooking gas, or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), sales rose 5.4 percent to 2.16 million tonnes, while naphtha sales surged over 10 percent to 1.23 million tonnes.

Sales of bitumen, used for making roads, were up about 1.6 percent, while fuel oil use climbed 7.4 percent in December.
